Hearing this, Nebuchadnezzar affirms that Daniel's god is "the God of gods and Lord of kings and revealer of mysteries". A Vision of Judgment (Daniel 7:9-12) 2. The scene of the four beasts arising from the sea, which Daniel saw in his night vision, is strikingly similar to the account found in the 13th chapter of Revelation: 1 And he stood on the sand of the seashore, and I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names. Because of this we can have a greater understanding of this dream than Daniel did. With the death of Nebuchadnezzar comes a change in the peoples attitudes, especially their leaders toward Judaism. Agreeing with God that they are sinners but believing that Jesus Christ death paid the penalty for their sin, that He was buried, and rose from the dead three days later triumphant over sin, Satan, and death forever. For the remainder of Nebuchadnezzars life, it seems that religion in the kingdom of Babylon was at least favorable to the worship of the God of the Jews. Daniel still dreaming said he approached one of those standing there. God grants this king success and his saints suffering, but only for an appointed time. The second scene portrays the establishment of the thrones on which the Ancient of Days and those holding court are to be seated to pronounce judgment. Neither is prophecy written to make us happy or to feel good. The expression is used in the Psalms in a more pregnant way, in reference to the coming Messiah. His followers too must be alert and ready for His return (24:44). The gap is not the prophets problem; it is ours. Prophecy is not a pep rally, which generates a great burst of short-term enthusiasm but does little to inspire faith and endurance in the midst of suffering. 31-35). At-A-Glance 1. Your dream and the visions that passed through your mind as you were lying in bed are these: The three and a half years referred to here in Daniel is the last half of the tribulation, also called the Great Tribulation and the Time of Jacobs Trouble. It is at this time that all human kingdoms will become subject to God and to the saints in the eternal kingdom, which the Son of Man will establish when He comes to the earth to judge and to rule. Centuries must therefore pass before the prophecies of Daniel are fulfilled. (9) The interpretation of Daniels vision comes in two parts, beginning with a general interpretation and then a more specific one based on Daniels questions. Daniel explained to the king that the statue represented four successive kingdoms based upon power and wealth, beginning with Babylon, while the stone and mountain signified a kingdom established by God that would never be destroyed nor given to other people. When they came in and stood before the king, 3 He not only speaks against the Most High, he oppresses the saints.
